Fixed Effects in General Linear Mixed Effect Modelling in Longitudinal Studies: Bootstrap and Modified Classical Procedures
نویسندگان
چکیده
Equivalent asymptotic procedures can yield conflicting inference when applied to the same dataset (Aubin & Cordeiro, 2000). Among the class of likelihood ratio tests, modified likelihood ratio tests (e.g., Bartlett, 1937) have been proposed and have documented improved performances over classical procedures. Modified F tests have also been proposed (e.g., Kenward & Roger, 1997), and have been recently been shown to compare favorably with modified likelihood ratio tests (Fouladi & Shieh, 2002). Bootstrapping is generally proposed as another means by which to obtain improved procedures under varied sampling distributions and conditions. In the current paper, the performance characteristics of bootstrap procedures based on residual resampling are contrasted with the performance of modified asymptotic test of fixed parameters in mixed linear models of data from a small sample repeated measures study. In particular, the rejection probabilities of these procedures under varied conditions are documented.

The Effects of Oil Price Movement on Nigerian Macroeconomic Variables: Evidence from Linear near and Nonlinear ARDL Modelling
T he study seeks to investigate both linear and nonlinear effects of oil price movement on critical macroeconomic variables (output, price and exchange rate) in Nigeria using ARDL modeling approach. Previous studies substantially relied on linear methods using VAR approach to unravel this links without a clear conclusion. In an attempt to seek better results in this study, we employ both l...
متن کاملThe Relation between Hearing Loss and Smoking among Workers Exposed to Noise, Using Linear Mixed Models
Introduction: Noise is one of the most common and harmful physical factors in the working environment and has physical and psychological effects on individuals. In this study, the audiometry results of industrial workers were modeled and the effect of noise and other factors on hearing loss was examined. Materials and Methods: ...
متن کاملSize and power of tests for a zero random effect variance or polynomial regression in additive and linear mixed models
Several tests for a zero random effect variance in linear mixed models are compared. This testing problem is non-regular because the tested parameter is on the boundary of the parameter space. Size and power of the different tests are investigated in an extensive simulation study that covers a variety of important settings. These include testing for polynomial regression versus a general smooth...
متن کاملA comparison of bootstrap approaches for estimating uncertainty of parameters in linear mixed-effects models.
A version of the nonparametric bootstrap, which resamples the entire subjects from original data, called the case bootstrap, has been increasingly used for estimating uncertainty of parameters in mixed-effects models. It is usually applied to obtain more robust estimates of the parameters and more realistic confidence intervals (CIs). Alternative bootstrap methods, such as residual bootstrap an...
متن کاملBayesian Inference for Spatial Beta Generalized Linear Mixed Models
In some applications, the response variable assumes values in the unit interval. The standard linear regression model is not appropriate for modelling this type of data because the normality assumption is not met. Alternatively, the beta regression model has been introduced to analyze such observations. A beta distribution represents a flexible density family on (0, 1) interval that covers symm...
